Note that by 1857 the shako was defunct in the HEIC's regular regiments of Bengal Native Infantry (BNI), but was nonetheless widely retained amongst the regiments employed by the independent statelets.  This code could, however, function perfectly happily  as BNI sepoys from the previous decade, and as such is suitable for the two Anglo-Sikh Wars, the 1st Anglo-Afghan  War and the Opium War. Note that one casting is duplicated in the code of four. When at length the Gwalior Contingent mutinied and joined the fighting around Cawnpore and Lucknow, it initially took the field in full uniform as portrayed here.
