Iron Duke News n'Stuff

This week we've added quite a lot more fiddly detail on the Historical Notes pages, mainly on the organizations and uniforms sections, which is not designed to entertian you per se, (so no real point in immediately dashing there to look-see), but rather to help you plan your armies and your games in slow time and to be there when you need it.

Lots of new stuff - mounted officers and baggage train wise - now on the workbench. Allow about a month for them to appear in the Empress online shop.

Work is presently underway on the 93rd Sutherland Highlanders (24 figs), British higher command personalities, mounted field officers, 5 x standing and walking horses, 2 x baggage elephants and mahouts, 2 x baggage camels and drivers, mathlockmen (and other nice things besides). Please don't immediately hold your breath, as all this will take time to come into full production. Designs have been completed for the following personality figures: Lt-Gen Sir Colin Campbell (C-in-C India), Maj-Gen Sir James Outram, Brig-Gen Sir Henry Lawrence, Brig-Gen Archdale Wilson, Brigadier John Nicholson (foot and mounted versions); Brig-Gen Henry Havelock, Lt-Col Fraser-Tytler (Havelock's chief of staff), Col/Brig-Gen James Neill, Col/Brig Hope Grant, Capt Francis Maude RA and Capt Jeremiah Brasyer (mounted this time).

With the range expanding we've now subdivided the Product Page into categories, for your gretarer browsing convenience. Click on 'Products' as usual and then to the relevant drop-down sub-flag. Note that the Horse codes, artillery kits and carts are now to be found on the page 'Common to Both Sides'.

In the uniform section of 'Histrorical Notes' we've added guidance as to which of our imminent horse codes would best suit each of the cavalry units discussed there.
In essence IMH 1 is a code of 4 horses with basic hunting saddles, a saddle wallet and a pistol holster. These are best suited as the chargers of commanders and staff officers.
IMH 2 and 3 come with a regualr cavalry fit of harnness and saddlery. The black sheepskin saddle cloth which ordinarily go over the top of the saddlery in Europe has been discarded as a concession to climate. These codes are good for British units, such as the 9th Lancers and 6th DG, but also for the HEIC's Bengal Light Cavalry units, all of which mutinied. Perhaps surpisingly, or counter-intuitively, we also recommend IMH 2 and 3 for some of the Indian irregualr cavalry units on the British side - in particualr the Guides Cavalry and Hodson's Horse.
IMH 4 and 5 come with a fit of saddlery and harness ideally suited to the Company's (mutinous) Bengal Irregular Cavalry regiments and the several regiments of Oudh Irregular Cavalry (likewise mutinous). These horses also suit the three squadron-sized contingents from the Punjab Irregular Force which remained loyal and gave distingsuhed service at Delhi and Lucknow (1st, 2nd and 5th Punjab Cavalry).

New codes IMBC 21 (Sikh inf) and IMLA 11 (Bhistis and bullock) have just been released to Empress. Watch their online shop over the next few days for the codes to appear there. Obviously the bhisti boys are suitable for both sides in the Mutiny as well as for most other 18th-19th century conflicts on the Indian sub-continent.
